Union County Siding Contractor | The Best Material for your new home

Noise reduction promotes a peaceful atmosphere which is always a welcome experience inside your home. Professional builders agree that thickening the exterior walls of a home keeps interior and exterior sounds where they belong. You want to know the thickness of the exterior walls prior to building. Wall thickness is a primary concern for educated consumers. Zoning ordinances often take into account the decibel rating of homes placed closely together. Having larger lots eliminates this concern almost completely.

The rating on exterior siding is different depending upon how effectively it can further reduce sound transference. Homes built with this feature in mind offer the potential for improved tranquility. Peace and quiet are hard to come by especially in busy communities. Choosing superior exterior materials is important in new construction, leaving tangible results that can be seen and heard.

Watchung Siding Contractor

May 8, 2018 By admin

Are you in need of a Watchung Siding contractor? Choosing a siding contractor is more than just comparing prices and hiring the least expensive. It is highly recommended to evaluate eachWatchung siding contractor as closely as you would a doctor or attorney. Your siding contractor will be working on an expensive investment, and cutting corners or improper installation can invalidate a manufacturer’s warranty. Below are some tips to keep in mind when looking to select the best possible Watchung siding contractor.

Watchung Siding Contractor Tips On Choosing the Best Watchung Siding Contractor

  1. Word of mouth is a powerful form of advertising. Always ask family members, friends and co-workers for recommendations. If they have recommendations, they will be happy to pass the name of the company along to you. At the very least, they will tell you which siding contractors to avoid.
  2. Before choosing a Union County siding contractor, get at least three different quotes. This will give you the opportunity to compare price and experience. Always take the time to interview each contractor. Keep in the mind the only bad questions are the ones not asked.
  3. It is important the Union County siding contractor is properly insured. The contractor should carry general liability and worker’s compensation insurance. Always require proof of insurance before signing a contract with the contractor. This is for protection of all involved in the event the contractor is injured while on your property or something goes wrong during the work process, and there is damage to your property.
  4. Check if your state requires siding contractors to be licensed. Not all states require such a license, but states that do will require the contractor to pass a written exam to demonstrate their knowledge about the business at hand. Your local municipal building inspector will be able to tell you if a contractor requires licensing by the state.
  5. Obtaining references from customers from the previous 12 months will give you the opportunity to check the quality of the work they provide as well as gauge customer satisfaction. Ask for at least ten names and phone numbers and call 2 or 3 at random. Ask about their experience with the contractor and the quality of the work.
  6. Warranties are very important and a quality siding contractor will offer a warranty on their workmanship in addition to the manufacturer’s warranty. Most workmanship and material errors will show up quickly, but a reputable contractor will stand behind their work even after the expiration of the warranty.

Hardiplank Siding

April 30, 2018 By admin

Are you interested in purchasing Hardiplank siding for your Central NJ home? Hardiplank siding is a premium brand of fiber cement board siding produced by the James Hardie Company. The difference between Hardiplank siding and other cement board siding is in the colors offered, the company reputation, and the ancillary products that go along with the siding. Let’s dig a bit deeper into the world of Hardiplank siding:

Hardiplank Siding & Installation in SummitAbout Hardiplank Siding

Varieties:

Hardiplank siding can be purchased with a wood-grain look, a plain smooth look or a stucco type finish. Hardiplank also comes in simulated cedar shingle planks. There are a variety of colors available, but you can also buy pre-primed white and paint it with standard house paint. If you go with one of Hardie’s colors, you can buy matching color caulk and cement board trim as well.

Advantages:

Hardiplank siding has the same advantages as other cement board siding. The first is durability. This type of siding is considered a lifetime product that is expected to last as long as your house. Low Maintenance is another advantage. Hardiplank siding resists mold and mildew while holding paint without peeling or chipping.

Cost:

The upfront costs of cement board siding are higher than wood or vinyl. Hardiplank siding can cost twice as much to buy and install compared to some siding options. With no future painting and replacement costs, it probably ends up being a better deal if you can afford it up front.

Precautions:

Installing any cement board siding is not particularly difficult, but it is different from wood or vinyl siding. Although exceedingly durable once installed, it is more brittle and prone to cracking than wood or vinyl if not handled carefully during installation. Be sure your installers have experience with cement board.

Cutting:

Cutting Hardiplank siding, or any cement board siding requires special care. For a circular saw, use a carbide tipped or diamond blade designed for cutting fiber cement. You must use a saw with a dust bag or an attached vacuum because the fine cement dust gets everywhere and is difficult to clean up, not to mention unhealthy to breathe. Even with a dust bag, cutting inside is not a good idea. Dewalt makes a variable speed cement siding shear that is easier to handle than a circular saw, but you can only cut one board at a time. With a saw, you can stack and cut multiple boards. However, the shears are more portable and you can use them to cut siding on a ladder. If you are not skilled and experiencing in projects like this, it is HIGHLY recommended to hire a professional to install your siding.

Hardie Board Siding

April 24, 2018 By admin

Hardie Board Siding in WestfieldHave you ever heard of Hardie board siding? Hardie board siding, created by James Hardie and also known as cement board siding, has been around many years. Advertised as a low-maintenance, long-lasting material, is it the way to go for your home? Below are the pros and cons of Hardie board siding to help you decide:

Pros of Hardie Board Siding:

This siding seems to be a rising trend in the industry lately. It’s a product that lasts, comes in a wide variety of textures and colors, and is affordable. The benefits extend beyond those factors, and when it comes to Hardie board siding, there is a nice list of pros.

  • Longevity: Most hardie board siding comes with a 50-year, limited transferable warranty. This siding is completely rot and insect resistant and can even handle salt spray from the ocean.
  • Appearance: Hardie board siding can be made to mimic just about any other siding material, including wood lap boards, cedar shingles, and wood shake siding. Color options are virtually unlimited. These colors are accompanied by a 15 year warranty on the finish.
  • Fire Resistant: Hardie board siding is 90 percent sand and cement which makes it fire-resistant.
  • Storm Resistant: Whether you’re looking for a siding material that can withstand the next Hurricane Sandy, or one that can fend off the next summer hailstorm without sustaining damage, cement board siding is a proven commodity in the weather department.

Cons of Hardie Board Siding:

So what’s not to like about Hardie board siding? Two things stand out. First of all, because of its weight, the siding requires more resources to install than other siding materials. Second, it’s not a maintenance-free siding material. You will have to repaint it in time.

  • High Installation and Labor Costs: This siding requires more planning, a larger labor force, and takes longer to install due to its composition. It weighs about 300 pounds (100 square feet) compared to 60-70 pounds for vinyl siding. This can increase labor and the cost of cement installation.
  • Maintenance: It has to be re-painted periodically. Hardie board’s ColorPlus ® Technology Warranty covers paint and labor for peeling and chipping of their finishes for only 15 years.\
